Our Response Of Faith And Overcoming Flesh (Carnality versus Spirituality).

In our journey of faith, it is important that we overcome carnality that we may be more in tune with our spiritual side.

Understand that you are more of a spiritual being than a physical being. To be able to hear God clearly we need to be spiritual. God is spirit and anyone that worships Him must worship in spirit and in truth (John 4:24).

Carnality and spirituality cannot coexist, for the carnal mind is enmity against God and cannot please God Rom 8:7.
A type of carnality versus spirituality is Ishmael and Isaac in Genesis 21:10 Ishmael having been conceived out of Abraham’s carnality and Isaac, the promised child a type of spirituality.

When the spiritual was born the bond woman and her son (Ishmael) were cast out (Gal 4:30). They could not coexist.
Another example, which also is a type is displayed in the twin pregnancy of Rebekah in Gen 25:23 Two nations were at war in her womb. Esau (who later sold his birth right) representing carnality and Jacob representing spirituality.
It is a fact that God hates carnality. ‘Jacob (spirituality) I love, Esau (carnality) I hate ‘.( Malachi 1:3, Rom 9:13).

Our response of faith (what we should know and do).

1. Know that carnality is a killer. It kills your spiritual side which is where God communes with you.
To be carnally minded is death and to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

2. We must remember that our old self was crucified with Him in order that our body of sin is rendered inactive (Rom 6:6) hence we have victory over sin and carnality.

3. On the basis of what Jesus did for us. We apply the cross. We must crucify the flesh with all its passions and desires (Gal 5:24). This is not free from pain but it is the best thing. (1 peter 4:1-2)
This is the distinguishing mark of those who belong to Jesus.
Apply the cross. Nail carnality to the cross.

4. Deny yourself, take up the cross. Jesus said ‘not my will but yours be done’. The flesh feeds on things that facilitate carnality. The cross is a place where you die. You die to what your flesh really wants to do and choose to obey God. Jesus said ‘If anyone would come after me let him deny himself take up his cross and follow me’. (Mat 16:24).
The cross is Instrument of execution and the way of deliverance.

Phil 4:13- I can do all things through Christ the one who empowers me within.

5. Be real with God and let Him know that you cannot handle the situation. You need Him. It is not by trusting yourself, yield to Jesus. You exercise your will when you choose to let him empower you from within. Every time you have a need, will the right thing.
Heb12:10- not our own holiness we become partakers of God’s holiness through Jesus, the holy one who dwells in us.

6. Allow Jesus to take control of your challenge and the situation. (1 cor 1:30).

  1. Insightful..wonderful reminder as always…Today I nail carnality to the cross. It is no longer I that lives but Christ that lives in me…
    Many thanks

  2. Thanks Pst Fola for your exhortations in your blog. It has been a blessing though I don’t always leave a comment.

Developing a daily work with the Holy Spirit supports our walk of spirituality. He gives us the power to fuel our spirit, soul and body . Act1:8. The Holy Spirit is a person and he longs for us to fellowship. I have discovered that the more of him that rubs on us when we fellowship with him, the less active our flesh becomes and the more productive our Christian life becomes.

  3. Nice post and timely as we all know that our flesh is always waging war against the Spirit of God in us. Our flesh will rather want to eat than be denied throuh fasing and seeking God’s face. It would rather move us to sleep than spend a couple of hours on our knees in deep intercession. May the Lord perfect all that concerns us and help us to discern the truth in these end times in Jesus’ name.

  4. God bless you my sis as you hear and study to give what the holy spirit has given you for the body of christ you are bless. As you pour out you will be blessed in Jesus name. Thank you very much. Be blessed.

    • that there are those who will honor him with words, but their actions speak dtrnefefily. Isaiah 29:13 Matthew 15:7-9 The bible says to test the spirit. 1 John 4:1-6If you truly love someone, will you not warn them where they will end up if they do not repent? We all fall short of the glory of God, and if you sin, you repent. Even after you’ve given your life to Christ, if you continue to sin, you continue to repent until you’re perfect as Jesus was, you continue to repent and pray for deliverance and that you learn from your mistakes. Nobody is made perfect overnight from giving your life to Christ. Whether it’s pride, envy, jealousy, anger, rage, etc. There’s nothing wrong with preaching about continual repentance until you’re made perfect. I see nothing wrong with Paul’s message except for the fact that it may be too strong for watered down Christians who live in America this day in age. We must go back to the basics and honor the most high God in everything we do, living the life our heavenly Father wants for us. Again, being radical for Christ in the right way is good because he’s preaching the un-watered down truth to kids who NEED to hear the truth! The world is drawing away from God, ignoring the word and the bible states that we should LIVE in it! It’s gotten to the point that Christians are no different from the world and the bible says to be SEPARATE! I’d rather have someone correct me where I’m wrong rather than tell me what I’m doing is okay because THAT IS LOVE. Correction is love because you know where they’re going if they continue to practice sin. Instead of blogging about how we hate how honest some preachers/pastors/evangelists are, why don’t we all meditate on the word and live the life we’re supposed to in Christ? The life God wants for us, not the life we want for ourselves? Are we not only here for a season, to preach the gospel? This is not our home, we’re here for a short time so proclaim the kingdom of God while it’s at hand. Know the truth, and preach the truth and don’t spend so much time discrediting a man who only wants to further our heavenly Father’s kingdom. I’d understand where the animosity is coming from if he wasn’t quoting scriptures, but he is! He isn’t lying! Again, we all sin and make mistakes unless we’re made perfect in Christ. What matters is what you will do AFTER you’ve sinned and what you will do to stop it.God bless you all and I went on rambling a little because it’s a bad habit lol. I hope maybe through the gospel I may have opened someone’s eyes, even a little. I’m no scholar and I’m not proclaiming to be roiling in the Holy Spirit yet, but I’m trying and that’s what God is looking for those who want to further his kingdom and live a life for him, not for ourselves. Admitting you’re a sinner even after you’re saved when you sin is what God is looking for. We all fall short of the glory of God, but it’s by grace we are saved.

  5. So fantastic that living with the Holy Spirit in blessing and be lead by him are so wonderful thanksgiving in our a journey to glory daily and we will not get permision to flesh to rule us or be obstacle to growing to Christ and so much good thing are in the Spirit of God to celebrate and be thankful, thanks and bless, keijo sweden

  6. ishiswoman, accepting Christ means blnievieg in Him alone for eternal salvation. Please see excerpt below from Clear Gospel Campaign: Section 1 The Object and Content of Saving Faith We believe that the object of saving faith is our Lord Jesus Christ. We note, however, that a name is simply an emblem of the truths associated with a person’s character, and that it is a person’s character that sanctifies, or sullies his name, not the name that sanctifies or sullies a person’s character. We believe that this is why God has magnified His Word above His name (Psalm 138:2). It is the eternal truths of God’s divine nature, as revealed in His word, that give meaning and awe to His name. Accordingly, we believe that the name Jesus and the word gospel are not magic words, and that to simply speak of Jesus or the gospel when divorced from the essential truths of Jesus Christ and His glorious gospel is to preach another Jesus (2nd Corinthians 11:3-4) and another gospel (Galatians 1:6-7) in whom and in which there is no salvation. Accordingly, we believe that a saving profession of faith in Jesus Christ must include as its content, at the very least:1. An understanding and belief that one has sinned and fallen short of the standard required by God, and therefore, in need of a Savior (Matthew 9:12; 1st Corinthians 15:1-4).2. An understanding and belief that Jesus Christ is the Eternal God who became a man; (Matthew 16:16-18; John 8:23-24 & 58; 11:25-27; 20:31; Acts 9:20; 16:30-31; 1st John 5:13).3. An understanding and belief that the violent and bloody death suffered by Jesus Christ was sufficient to cover, pay for, or take away the sins of the one who believes in Him (1st Corinthians 15:1-4, John 19:39).4. An understanding and belief in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ; (1st Corinthians 15:1-4); and5. An understanding and belief that Salvation is the gift of God, bestowed only on those who honor the Son by blnievieg in Him alone for their salvation, and renouncing all confidence in the works of the law to contribute to their salvation (John 4:10; Romans 4:4; 11:6; Galatians 2:21; 3:10-14; 5:1-4; Ephesians 2:8-9).
