God’s words and promises are yes and amen. If He has promised, then we can count on Him to deliver.
I will like to share four lessons from the life of Jacob in Genesis 28 that I believe are essential to receiving the promise of God.
Key 1: Following the father’s instructions (Gen 28:1-2).
Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him and directed him, “You must not take a wife from the Canaanite women. Arise, go to Paddan-aram to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father, and take as your wife from there one of the daughters of Laban your mother’s brother”.
It may not always be convenient to follow the instructions God has laid down in His words. We may need to ‘arise’ or get out of our comfort zone or area of familiarity.
We may be faced with challenging situations that makes instructions hard to follow. God still expects us to obey against all odds. He understands and has provided a way of escape. Thank God for His grace! (2 cor 12:9)
Key 2: ( Gen 28:3-4) “May God Almighty bless you, And make you fruitful and multiply you,
That you may be an assembly of peoples……..
Jacob had his mind set on the blessings that his father had pronounced upon him. The blessings that he would be fruitful and that his descendants would inherit the land. He knew that the accomplishment of the blessing in his life depended on his obedience to his father’s instruction in Gen 28:1-2 above.
Focusing our mind on the end result is a key to obeying instructions amidst challenges. We can also learn from our Lord Jesus Christ; the pioneer and perfecter of our faith who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame ( Hebrew 12:2).
Key 3: As soon as the instruction had been obeyed, the promise was delivered.
A delay in physical manifestation is not denial of manifestation.
The answer to Isaac’s prayer for his son Jacob was revealed to him in a dream (Gen 28:12-15). God reaffirmed the blessings.
To Jacob the dream was as real as a physical manifestation. Even though he hadn’t received the promise. He believed.
Key 4: Jacob made a vow to further speed up a physical manifestation (Gen 28:20-22).
What promise are you patiently waiting for? You can sow a seed.
Your seed may not be in cash like in the case of Jacob, it was a promise. A seed of your time, money or resources. God appreciates the seed sown as he weighs the heart not the seed.
I remember making a vow of five hours of worship in Nov 2012 when my faith was shaken and it looked like all hope was lost.
The Lord honoured my vow and i received an instant miracle, for which I will always be grateful.
